Cairo, Egypt
My ideal time to travel for temps up to 25C: Nov → Mar
Apply for a visa online (https://www.visa2egypt.gov.eg/) from $25 USD.
Get a SIM card from the airport as soon as you arrive. They’ll need your Passport and each person can have up to five. At arrivals, there’s a choice between Orange, Vodafone and Etisalat. I used Orange. The contract is valid for 30 days and is specifically designed for tourists. I’d also encourage having a service like Cloudflare WARP on your device so that you can make calls using WhatsApp when not on WiFi.
Attractions
Mosques
Visit the Mausoleum of Imaan Al Hussein. Best place to direct an Uber to is “City Mart” — Hasan El Adawy, Street - Hussein Square, Cairo Governorate, Egypt
Dining
Lots of food options across multiple floors of the mall, from dine in to fast food. We ate from Sabai by Sabai.
The food is mediocre, however the views of the pyramids whilst eating your food is why you’re there. Worth going around sunset to actually be able to view the pyramids or earlier during the day when it isn’t hot.
